Rapid.Space is currently facing a supply tension on the embedded Mitac PCs that power its ORS Classic. This blog article aims to explain to our customers and partners the root cause of the situation, its global scale, and how we are managing these constraints to keep delivering in the best possible conditions.

A global Intel CPU shortage

Since the second half of 2025, the global market for Intel processors has been hit by a structural shortage. The root cause is well documented across the industry: the explosion in demand for AI infrastructure has led hyperscalers and large data center operators to absorb a disproportionate share of Intel's manufacturing capacity.

The ORS and Mitac PCs

ORS Classic is directly impacted by this shortage. Like its predecessors, it is built on the SimpleRAN principle: a fully autonomous all-in-one system integrating radio, BBU, core network, and edge services within a single compact enclosure. The current model is based on a Mitac PC powered by an Intel processor.

Mitac is a trusted partner, well regarded for the quality and robustness of its motherboards and embedded systems in industrial environments. But Mitac, like all x86 system manufacturers, is directly exposed to Intel's supply contraction. The PC orders we place with Mitac are today subject to CPU lead times that are imposed on every player in the market, regardless of their size or the length of their relationship with Intel.

What this means concretely for our customers

The consequences are straightforward: available stock of ORS Classic 2x1W with Mitac PC is drastically limited, and new orders are subject to longer delivery times than usual. We are doing everything we can to anticipate our requirements and place orders well in advance, but Mitac's own visibility on lead times remains constrained by the uncertainty that persists at Intel's level.

We therefore strongly recommend that customers anticipate their needs and reach out to us as early as possible to secure an allocation. An order placed several weeks ahead of the actual operational need gives our supply chain team the room necessary to source components under the best available conditions.

Our commitment

Rapid.Space is committed to keeping its customers informed as the situation evolves. In parallel, we are actively working to broaden the hardware base of our products such as AMD processors alongside Intel, reducing our long-term exposure to single-vendor dependency. This diversification is consistent with our philosophy of technological sovereignty and open hardware.

For any questions about ORS availability or to secure your allocation, please do not hesitate to contact our sales team at sales@rapid.space.
